Amazon posted on their Developer Blog today that the online retail giant will soon be launching its own form of virtual currency in the way of Amazon Coins. The service will become available this May and allow Kindle owners to purchase games, apps, and in-app items. Amazon Coins will be purchasable for the Kindle Fire tablet and should prove to be an excellent way to provide children access to making game/app purchases without giving them the run of the credit card.
When the service launches this spring, Amazon will reportedly be giving out tens of millions of dollars worth of Amazon Coins for free to customers as a meas of introducing them to the virtual currency.
