UPDATE:
Just after posting this article, Disney made an official statement confirming the closing of Junction Point:
“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”
Various news outlets are reporting that the game studio behind Epic Mickey and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Junction Point, is on the way out. A tweet posted this morning by Star Citizen developer, Roberts Space Industries (owned by Wing Commander creator, Chris Roberts) stated:
“Second 21 gun salute for a studio in 7 days,” it says. “Fare-the-well Junction Point! We hope that you all find new studios soon!”
The tweet has since been removed the tweet and posted:
“Our posting about Junction Point was based on a story by mynintendonews.com this AM. CIG has no inside info on their status.”
While there has been no official word from Disney or Junction Point, the rumor is back by reports earlier in the month that sales for Epic Mickey 2 were significantly lower than the studio predicted based on it’s predecessor’s success.
<GT> wishes the best to all former Junction Point employees.
