We mentioned yesterday that the OUYA could really give the major console makers a run for their money should they decide to put Netflix on the $100 box. Well it would seem Microsoft has brought additional media option to the table, and one that’s quite enticing.
Redbox (you know, those rental kiosks you can’t spit without hitting) teamed up with Verizon several months back to announce a Netflix competitor in the form of Redbox Instant. Xbox’s Major Nelson announced on his blog yesterday that the streaming service would become an Xbox exclusive in the near future.
Xbox 360 is the exclusive gaming console launch partner for Redbox Instant by Verizon. A Redbox Instant by Verizon subscription package, priced at $8 per month for DVD or $9 per month for Blu-ray, combines four one-night credits for the latest movie releases at Redbox kiosks with access to a great catalogue of popular movies available for unlimited streaming. Through the app, Xbox 360 movie fans can also purchase and rent the newest digital releases without needing a subscription.
If you’re interested in trying it out before it is released, you can sign up for the private beta over at the Redbox Instant site.
Your move Netflix.
