PlayStation 4 Revealed

It is coming…It is just around the corner…This holiday season will see the dawn of another legendary video game console manufacturer releasing it’s latest wares. Outside of all the hype that usually comes along with such a release the truth dwells somewhere beneath.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is set to come out and to the usual fanfare and all the OMG’s! we can take. To the average PC gamer like me consoles were always a pleasant little distraction from the more serious gaming immersions in the PC world that the gaming community always understood as the king of places to game.
World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike, Doom, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Crysis, Command and Conquer: Red Alert, Burnout Paradise, SimCity, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and on and on.

If you ever had the idea or aspiration of being what the community called a “Hard Core Gamer” your only method laid in PC gaming. Consoles simply didn’t have the power to push the envelope. They were quaint little devices to kill the time between all those epic battles and serious competitions that awaited you on the computer across the room.

They had no real social interactions short of inviting over a friend to sit on the couch next to you and play a head-to-head match up on something like Madden. Although that was then it seems that this is now.
PlayStation 4 and other consoles that are soon to follow are promising a lot of the same things that always made the PC gaming a clear step above any console or hand held device.

I must say after all these years they just might have broken down some barriers…onboard video saves, social capabilities, and innovative second screen features. They are even claiming they are, “focused on building an architecture that will allow the greatest game developers in the industry to push boundaries and dig deep within their imaginations to create the most immersive and unique games for you to enjoy.”

Sony has claimed “The future of PlayStation is all about great games and entertainment, and at PlayStation Meeting 2013, we brought some of the brightest and most creative minds from the development community on stage to unveil the games that will define PS4. A partial initial lineup for PlayStation 4 includes first-party games from Guerilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Sucker Punch (inFamous Second Son), Evolution Studios (Driveclub), and Japan Studio (Knack), as well as titles from our partners such as Activision/Bungie (Destiny), Blizzard Entertainment (Diablo III), Capcom (Deep Down), and Ubisoft (Watch_Dogs).

PlayStation also reinforced its commitment to self-publishing and the independent development community by having Jonathan Blow onstage who gave a sneak peek of his upcoming title The Witness. Finally, the incredible minds at Media Molecule and Quantic Dream gave glimpses of their conceptualization process and the future of game play with some remarkable footage. We only scratched the surface at the event, and will have many more exciting titles to come.”

Let’s hope the new console will allow my children to play all of their games that I paid for on PS3. It would be a real bummer if they repeated the tragedy of the past where the previous games purchased were no longer compatible.
