According to an article posted this morning at Edge Online report that “sources with first-hand experience of Microsoft’s next generation console,” are saying that the Xbox 720 (or whatever it is going to be called) is going to require a persistent internet connection just to play games. This is to not only avoid piracy, but would also squash the second-hand video game market. Additionally, this may hurt many consumers who enjoy taking their gaming consoles on trips where internet may not already be available.
As far as specs go, the sources mentioned in the article say the system will sport an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz processor, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. This falls in line with other rumors that have been going around. Also, games will reportedly run off of 50GB Blu-Ray discs.
With the Wii U already out, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 announcement coming up, expect to hear much more about the latest Xbox in the months to come.
